Michelle Bachelet declaró ante el Consejo de Derechos Humanos en Ginebra que Afganistán se encontraba en una «fase nueva y peligrosa», con muchas mujeres y miembros de grupos étnicos y comunidades religiosas profundamente preocupados por sus derechos.

«Es importante destacar que, contradiciendo las garantías de que los talibanes iban a defender los derechos de las mujeres, en las últimas tres semanas, las mujeres han sido, en cambio, progresivamente excluidas de la esfera pública», dijo en su discurso.

Bachelet expresó su consternación por la composición del nuevo Gobierno talibán, señalando la ausencia de mujeres y su predominio de la etnia pashtún.

Señaló otras promesas incumplidas sobre la concesión de una amnistía a antiguos oficiales y agentes de seguridad vinculados al Gobierno anterior y la prohibición de los registros domiciliarios.
